Life Central Church has a long held relationship with our school and the vulnerable children they serve.
The situation in this remote part of Kenya is that while the children have the right to education, but the nearest school is up to a 6km walk… not easy to do in the African heat at the age of four years old! So enter one Tabitha Okumu, a woman with a God given vision to care for and these vulnerable kids. She, along with like minded Mum’s in the area began to feed those who were most in need. This grew until the locals were saying, ‘if you have the children together each day, why don’t your teach them?’ In 2009 that is what happened and soon after our church made links with the project. So, since 2010 we have partnered with them to put up buildings, assist with feeding the children.
From 2015 Life central Church started to commit to a regular amount each month to make sure there was enough to keep things going. Then in 2017 Steve & Larisa Jenkins went to visit and see for themselves what the needs were and how we can best support them in an ongoing capacity. So now, up to the ‘Standard 5’ grade, the children in the village have a local school to go to and can be sure of at least one basic meal that day. We are looking to keep this going and continue to provide excellent teaching too. In fact, not only is the school supporting the children, but as an educational establishment it is out performing most of the state schools in the area!
Our desire is to find ways of developing this relationship and will be looking to send out another team in the not too distant future… do you have the vision to join us?
